Agriculture

Most of the cultivated area is devoted to the traditional activities of Mendoza: vitiviniculture and
wine making. In 1995, grape production amounted to over 1,975,000 tons, representing 70% of
the country total.

Mendoza, with 150,000 ha. of vineyards, is the main producer of wine and nearly 90% of the total
production of fine wine is located in this area. The fine varietal vineyard surface is increasing
rapidly (20% in the last few years) because of a new tendency in consumption.
